Then he studied history and German language studies at the university of his hometown. From 1969 he worked as a copywriter at the Werbeagentur GGK. Since his first major exhibition in 1988 at the Daniel Blaise Thorens Fine Art Gallery in Basel, Ropélé has been active exclusively as an artist. The oeuvre, which has been increasingly rural since his relocation to Solothurn, mainly comprises landscape and garden pieces, as well as still life and subjects with an urban character.
