Of the several rare floral still life paintings we have owned over the last 35 years, this painting is the largest and most beautifully expressive we have offered. Featured in 'American Art Review' magazine - September/October Issue.

This is one of several versions of 'Stranded' that Hansen painted throughout his career. And this particular painting represents one of his earliest and finest efforts.

Pebble Beach visionary, S.F.B. Morse commissioned his artist friend, Armin Hansen, to print a variant of his original etching of the same year. Exhibited/Illustrated: Whatcom Museum/2023; Armin Hansen: The Artful Voyage/2015-2016.

Pietro “Pete” Ferrante (right) is credited with being the father of Monterey’s famed sardine industry. Arriving in Monterey in 1904 he observed the methods of fishing that were being used. By his redesign of the lampara net Monterey soon became the Sardine Capital of the World.

Exhibited ``Small Pictures, Painters of the West,'' illustrated in the book ``Armin Hansen: The Artful Voyage,'' featured in the Steinbecknow.com film ``John Steinbeck's Storied Artists.''Provenance to the painting being purchased from Hansen's Monterey studio.

Next to his paintings of fishermen and the sea, his depictions of rodeo are among Hansen's greatest work. The painting is seen in the award-winning, Jack Lemmon-narrated film ``Time Captured in Paintings – the Monterey Legacy,'' which has been telecast on PBS.

A symbolic creation inspired by California's Gold Rush era in the days of the Forty Niners...executed in the new 'symbolism which he is currently practicing' with 'a whole new palette full of colors...inspired by the covered wagon period, but not historic or genre in style.' (Edwards/2012).
