Beautifully colored and detailed coastal scene of a small harbor area by Gasser, possibly a rendering of a New Jersey or Massachusetts scene. The work is in very fine condition, signed lower left, conservation matted & framed with museum glass. The work is 22" x 30".
This painting has several if not all of the elements associated with the best Gasser paintings: 1) the old buildings, 2) clothes on the line, 3) snow, 4) an old car, 5) people conversing, 6) an old sign, 7) a telephone pole, 8) a stark wintry tree, 9) the backdrop of the Newark skyline.
Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Henry Gasser enjoyed a successful career as first a student and then later as an artist, teacher and writer from the city’s commercial center.
