Virginia Banks, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, was born in 1920. She received her Bachelor's degree from Smith College in 1941 and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa. After her marriage to Arthur W. Freidinger, a psychiatrist, she moved with him to Seattle in the mid-1950s. Wonderful imagery with very thickly applied casein paint on burlap/masonite, exhibited at the Grand Central Galleries in NYC. Banks exhibited at the Whitney and PAFA, among other major venues. She is a Seattle artist, and this is probably an image of the Montlake Cut toward Lake Union with the University Bridge in background. Though she spent most of her time exhibiting at major museums and galleries in the major art centers of the NE USA. She is still little known, as most of her best paintings were held in her estate until very recently.
