Alexander Ciucurencu started painting at age 13, his birthplace, Tulcea. Immediately after finishing secondary school he became an apprentice painter in atelier Mihail Paraschiv. In 1921 he entered the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, having as teachers G.D. Mirea and Camil Ressu. He was a very dedicated student and eager to progress.
