    Alexander Ciucurencu started painting at age 13, his birthplace, Tulcea. Immediately after finishing secondary school he became an apprentice painter in atelier Mihail Paraschiv. In 1921 he entered the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, having as teachers G.D. Mirea and Camil Ressu. He was a very dedicated student and eager to progress. In the school during holidays, he studied painting at the School of Baia Mare.

    Turner's debuted in 1930, at the Official Salon, where he receives a prize. Then he departed to Paris to study at the Academy Julien, but prefered to work in the studio of artist André Lhote.
