He traveled through large parts of Europe and Africa as well as Persia and Russia. Wildhagen worked in Berlin for many years, then in Gdansk and later in Westphalia. He was a member of the National Association of Visual Artists in Germany and the Berlin Artists’ Association. Wildhagen created mainly impressionist landscapes in which he captured the seasonal atmospheres of nature.
