He moved to Paris in 1783, and was supported by Dulac, an art dealer and perfumer, who paid for Bidauld to study in Italy. This experience, which cemented his neo-classic style, "was to have a fundamental impact on his artistic outlook, which remained nearly unchanged for the next sixty years." He moved to Paris in 1783, and was supported by Dulac, an art dealer and perfumer, who paid for Bidauld to study in Italy. This experience, which cemented his neo-classic style, "was to have a fundamental impact on his artistic outlook, which remained nearly unchanged for the next sixty years." However, when this style went out of fashion, his painting was no longer sought after by collectors, and he died in poverty in 1846.
