Otto Greiner was born in 1869 in Leipzig, Germany. After training as a lithographer and draughtsman in his home-town of Leipzig, Otto Greiner studied painting at the Munich Academy. He worked as an artist in Rome from 1898 to 1915, where he had already met Max Klinger during a previous visit to the city in 1891. Otto Greiner was born in 1869 in Leipzig, Germany. After training as a lithographer and draughtsman in his home-town of Leipzig, Otto Greiner studied painting at the Munich Academy. He worked as an artist in Rome from 1898 to 1915, where he had already met Max Klinger during a previous visit to the city in 1891. Like Klinger, Greiner specialized in the depiction of nudes, for which mythological subjects provided an excellent opportunity. He also painted portraits, as well as leaving an impressive oeuvre of prints, much like his friend Klinger. Otto Greiner passed away in 1916 in Munich, Germany.
