    Alexandre Louis Marie Charpentier was a French artist known for his expertise in bas-relief sculptures, medal engraving, and cabinetmaking. He was considered a skilled craftsman and one of the great creators of bas-reliefs at the end of the 19th century. Charpentier learned medal engraving at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and later worked as a workshop assistant to the innovative medalist Hubert Ponscarme. Along with Ponscarme, Louis-Oscar Roty, and other artists, Charpentier played a significant role in the resurgence of artistry in French medal design. He also designed numerous pieces of furniture and opened several cabinetmaking workshops. Charpentier's work is now preserved in the Musée d'Orsay....
