    Alfred Crocker Leighton (b.1901 / d.1965)

    Leighton was born in Hasting, Sussex, England in 1901.

    Leighton studied architecture and art. In 1929, Leighton was the youngest member of the Royal Society of British Artists. He was invited to replace Lars Haukness as the art director at the Provincial Institute of Design and Technology. The Canadian Pacific Railway commissioned Leighton to paint their advertising campaigns. He moved to Calgary. Leighton married one of his students, Barbara Harvey.

    In 1931, Leighton established the Alberta Society of Artists where he served as its first President. The Society is still active today, its members showing their works regularly at the Leighton Art Cent...
