About Alfred Dabat

  • Biography

    Alfred Dabat first studied at the Beaux-Arts in Algiers, then went to Paris where he was taught by Benjamin Constant and Jean-Paul Laurens. He later returned to live in Algeria.

    He exhibited at the French Artists from 1899 to 1935, was honored with numerous awards, and became a member of the jury of the Prix de Rome and the French Artists Salon. Many of his paintings depict scenes from the South, especially the Ouled Nails as well as women in the Casbah of Algiers.
