    Alfred Frederick William Hayward ROI (1856 - 1939)

    A well-known painter of flower pictures, Alfred F. W. Hayward (often signs A.F.W. Hayward) was born in Port Hope, Ontario; however in 1875 he went to art school in England and stayed there for the rest of his life. His home (since about 1919) and the place of his death was Hemingford Grey, a village in the county of Cambridgeshire (then Huntingdonshire), about 60 miles due north of London. (1) (2)

    Hayward's primary medium was oil on canvas. His most famous subjects were flowers, although he has done landscapes, portraits and other still lifes. His best-known style is Realism*, and AskART has some excellent illustrations.
