    A very early work by Bergström when he was only 18 years old. Painted en plein air, likely during late autumn or early winter in 1887 during his first year of study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Alfred Maurits Bergström was a Swedish artist and professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

    He was a painter, watercolourist, and etcher. During the years 1887–1891, he studied at the Academy and won the royal medal in 1891. He stayed in France from 1894 to 1895. He also visited North Africa and the Netherlands and painted Swedish landscapes featuring seas and countryside. From 1898 to 1901, Bergström was an adjunct teacher in landscape painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
