Arthur Perigal Jr. was born in London in 1816 and brought to Edinburgh at a very young age. He followed in his father's footsteps, who was an artist and pupil of Fuseli, and focused on landscape painting. Perigal became an Associate in 1841 and an Academician in 1868. He primarily painted mountain and loch scenery in Scotland but expanded his subjects after visiting Italy and Switzerland. Perigal was known for his dedication to his profession, being a regular contributor to Annual Exhibitions. He was well-liked by his professional colleagues and was esteemed by the Academy.
