Wyeth, Gayle Hoskins, Thornton Oakley, and Frank Schoonover. He never felt a need to go outside the Brandywine region to paint, plus he was running a gallery/frame/art supply store full time. Bayard Taylor Berndt was an active member of the Wilmington, Delaware community of artists following the age of illustrators studying under Howard Pyle. He was a student of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art as well as the Wilmington Academy of Art, where he later became Director. Berndt's instructors at the Wilmington Academy included N.C.
