    Carl Cohnen (born August 7, 1887 in Mönchengladbach, † July 20, 1976 ibid) was a German landscape and portrait painter of the Düsseldorf School and the Rhenish Secession.

    Cohnen, son of the saddler, upholsterer and decorator Peter Joseph Cohnen and his wife Maria, née Jammers, studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. There he was a student of Eduard von Gebhardt and Julius Paul Junghanns, most recently a master student of Adolf Münzer.

    In 1911/1912 he stayed in Alsace for study purposes. During the First World War, he worked as a restorer in the parents' business. For the winter semester of 1923, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where Karl Caspar was his teacher.
