Seiler served as a reserve officer in the Franco-Prussian War before settling in Munich. He became a professor at the Munich Academy in 1889 and an honorary member in 1890. Seiler also served as a professor at the Berlin Academy from 1894-1895 and was a member of the Berlin Academy. He participated in exhibitions at the Glaspalast in Munich and was a member of the Munich artists' cooperative. Seiler received various honors, including the Bavarian Order of Michael.
