About Clement Meadmore

    A sculptor creating large-scale geometric shapes, Clement Meadmore used "hulking lengths of steel" that deceivingly appear fluid and lightweight. He was a key figure in making massive, dense forms the concern of sculpture. Of his work he said that it did not depict any specific thing and was about "the possibility of form and only that . . . I have to start with a real object, a thing---and then try to let it transcend it's physicality." Meadmore, working with maquettes at his kitchen table, paid close attention to geometry and often would work for a year or so to get a certain overall balance of line and shape.
