    Edward Henry Bearne (1843-1923). Painted primarily in watercolor although a good number of oils are known.

    Many of his paintings were dated – dates of record ranging from 1868 to 1909. Initially painted rural scenes of British thatched roof villages and related scenes; and beginning in the early to early 1880’s scenes of the continent; the Netherlands, the French Riviera, Switzerland, and Italy; primarily Venice. At some point he gained membership in the Royal Watercolor Society.(2).

    Nothing is known of his artistic education at this point. Biographical information on the back of a ca. 1920’s framed watercolor reads, “London landscape and rustic genre painter. Exhibited at the RA and SS 1869-1895.
