Initially painted rural scenes of British thatched roof villages and related scenes; and beginning in the early to early 1880’s scenes of the continent; the Netherlands, the French Riviera, Switzerland, and Italy; primarily Venice. At some point he gained membership in the Royal Watercolor Society.(2). Nothing is known of his artistic education at this point.
