    Francine Simonin, born in 1936 in Lausanne, is a designer, painter and engraver of Swiss and Canadian nationality. She can be related to a "vehement expressionism", without being totally related to it. After a childhood spent drawing, Simonin took classes at the Ecole Cantonale des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne with Marcel Poncet between 1955 and 1958. In the early 1960s, she met Marguerite Duras. Francine Simonin "fascinated by the work of Duras", is significantly marked by this new friendship. In 1965, the artist regularly exhibited her works at the Maurice Bridel Gallery in Lausanne, the Numaga Gallery in Auvernier, and the Nane Cailler Gallery in Pully.
