Biography
Georg Karl Balthasar von Hoeßlin (also George Hößlin, Hösslin or Hoeßlin) was a German painter born in Budapest in 1851 and died in Munich in 1923. He descended from a patrician family from Augsburg and grew up in America. Initially destined to become a merchant, he studied from 1871 at the Munich School of Arts and Crafts under Alexander Strähuber and the Munich Academy, being largely self-taught. He stayed in Italy in 1875, had a temporary stay in Boston in 1880, followed by longer stays in Rome and Venice, and finally settled in Munich from 1884. Influenced by Wilhelm von Lindenschmit the Younger, he undertook regular study trips to Italy. From 1876, he organized exhibitions at the Glaspalast in Munich and was a member of th...
