    Gill Watkiss is regarded as being one of the most influential and individual figurative/landscape artists to work in Cornwall in the last fifty years. She began her art career studying at the Walthamstow and South West Essex Schools of Art prior to moving to Newlyn in 1959. Ten years later, she moved to St Just- in-Penwith, which would prove to be a seminal moment in her artistic career, spurring a new direction in her work.

    She specializes in portraying her Cornish surroundings, often outside cottages and Chapels and within village streets. She has had numerous exhibitions over the last four decades, including two at the renowned Newlyn Gallery.
