    Giuseppe Fernando Piana was an Italian post-impressionist painter born in Ceriana. He showed early aptitudes for painting and received training at the Accademia Albertina in Turin. Piana exhibited at the Permanente of Milan and gained unexpected public success. He was known for his portraits, still lifes, and landscapes in the post-impressionist style, as well as his expertise in fresco technique. Piana lived most of his life in Bordighera and was particularly interested in the colors and luminous landscapes of the area. He was commissioned by Queen Margherita to paint a fresco for the Villa Etelinda
