Rudberg partly grew up on the island of Hven, where he lived and painted during the summer during his adult life. He was a mood painter and he created sun-drenched sea images in summary planes with few suggestive colors. Gustav made his breakthrough with the Swedish art critics with an exhibition at the Artists' House in Stockholm in 1959.
