Hans Andersen Brendekilde was born in 1857, in Braendekilde, Denmark. He is one of the most famous Dutch plein air painters. Hans began his artistic training as a stonemason. Eventually he studied sculpture, then painting, specializing in landscape and genre scenes, at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. After the turn of the century, Hans Brendekilde's brightly lit, light-filled scenes from Danish rural life gained attention at many exhibitions; Paris, 1889, Munich, 1891, Chicago, 1893, and London in 1907.
