    German painter, graphic artist and sculptor, Helge Leiberg studied from 1973-78 at the Dresden academy under G. Kettner. In 1979 he founded a band together with A. R. Penck and M. Freudenberg. In 1984 he moved to Western Germany and took up sculpting and performances.

    Helge Leiberg was born in 1954. The Dresden painter apprenticed as a positive retoucher. He studied at the University of Fine Arts in Dresden, in the class of Gerhard Kettner.

    In 1979, along with Michael Freudenberg and A. R. Penck, he founded a painter’s band. In the same year, the collaboration with the guitarist Lothar Fiedler began.

    Leiberg works with the media of music, film, dance, and visual art. In 1990, he founded the performance group GOKAN, where he increasingly applied the Noise-Painting technique. This technique, which he developed himself, applies a life electronic implementation of sign noises into sound.

    His works are in the possession of the collections of the Berlinische Galerie, Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Collection of Prints, Drawings and Photograph Dresden and the Würth Collection.
