    During an apprenticeship as a goldsmith in his hometown of Leipzig, Paul Herbert Beck (1920-2010) attended drawing lessons from Max Schwimmer at the School of Applied Arts for graphics and design.

    In 1948 he fled to West Germany, settled in Tegernsee and began to paint autodidactic. Already in 1952 his first exhibition of oil paintings was shown at the Gallery Commeter in Hamburg.
    The glowing colors of watercolors by Emil Nolde influenced his work significantly. He also began to paint vividly colored watercolors with a wide range of topics. He also gave his oil paintings a watercolor-like character by strong dilution with turpentine. (fea)...
