He was particularly appreciated by the art-loving Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz, called, in the Lower Rhineland dialect, Jan Wellem. Several times Jan Wellem and his second wife Anna Maria Luisa de 'Medici were represented by van Douven in ruler-portraits and portraits. Van Douven also served as art agent for Jan Wellem: in a handwritten letter from 1693, which is kept in Dusseldorf City Museum, are listed purchases for the... Read full biography
