    Jehudo Epstein was born in Belarus but studied art in Vienna, where he spent most of his adult life. During the First World War he was part of the group of 346 artists working for the Kriegspressequartier (KPQ). The remit of the KPQ was to co-ordinate press releases and propaganda for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the War he was honoured with an exhibition of his paintings at the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1920 for which he received the Reichl Prize.
