During the First World War he was part of the group of 346 artists working for the Kriegspressequartier (KPQ). The remit of the KPQ was to co-ordinate press releases and propaganda for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the War he was honoured with an exhibition of his paintings at the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1920 for which he received the Reichl Prize.
