    Josef Pillhofer (born June 1, 1921 in Vienna, † July 30, 2010 was an Austrian sculptor. From 1938 to 1941 he studied sculpture at the Grazer Kunstgewerbeschule under Wilhelm Gösser and painting with Rudolf Szyszkowitz. After his time as a soldier in the Second World War, he returned to the Graz School of Applied Arts, and soon moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he was a student of Fritz Wotruba in the years 1947-1950. In 1950/51 he received a scholarship to Paris. He participated in the sculpture class of Ossip Zadkine at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. During this stay, Wotruba's influence became relative through his acquaintance with Constantin Brâncusi and Henri Laurens.
