She finished her schooling at London Ontario's Beal Tech, where she began training in the arts. Donoghue lived in Toronto, Bath in England, and New York City. She has been exhibiting her work since 1973, throughout Canada, in the United States of America and in the United Kingdom. Donoghue's early exhibited work was fairly controversial, select galleries refused to show her giant portraits of naked males. Along with portraits she also painted still life scenes.
