    Michiel Carree was born in the Hague in 1657. Carree was a Dutch landscape painter of the Golden Age. He was active in The Hague (1686-1692), England (1692-95), Berlin (1697-1713),and Alkmar. He received his first lessons from his older brother Hendrik. Then he was a student of Nicolaas Berchem and Gabriel van der Leeuw. In England he was the teacher of Jana de Visscher. Thanks to the recognition Michiel Carree had gained, he was invited to Berlin by the King of Prussia, Frederick, who appointed him a court painter. After the monarch's death, Carree returned to the Netherlands and settled in Alkmaar. Apart from easel paintings, he decorated representative interiors....
