    Paula Raney Newman was an active contemporary New England and California artist of the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. Although she is virtually undiscovered, she was prolific in her painting, producing seascapes, landscapes and florals. She was a motivated artist, a dedicated wife and mother who studied at prestigious art institutions and with prominent artists of her time.

    Newman was born October 5, 1907 in the small farming community of Loogootee in Southern Indiana. At the age of eighteen, she moved to Chicago to accept a position as a dress designer for Marshall Fields. While in Chicago, she studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts.
