    Peter Prendergast was a Welsh painter whose home country and the landscape it held was a constant force of influence throughout his work - painting the North Welsh quarries and coal mines where he grew up. Born in the North Welsh mining village of Abertridwr, Prendergast's artistic endeavors were encouraged early on by his art teacher Gomer Lewis, and he began to draw the landscape of the surrounding Aber valley and the people and community who lived in his town.
