    Roar Wold was a member of Gruppe 5 and the environment that grew up around the architecture department at NTH in Trondheim in the late 1960s. Together with artists such as Lars Tiller and Ramon Isern, he represented throughout much of the 1970s and 1980s a form of abstraction that was unusual in Norwegian painting. With a particular compositional interest in architecture that is often visible in Wold's paintings, it was perhaps as a colourist that he really made his mark.

    Wold combined the starting point in a constructivist tradition with an unusually open and playful relationship with colour. For him, abstract painting was a way of getting closer to nature, and many of his works are transfigurations of landscapes, where the colors ...
