    Romul Nutiu (1932-2012) is considered one of the most important representatives of Abstract Expressionism behind the Iron Curtain. Early on in his career, the artist extended the dynamic painting act beyond the canvas to three dimensional objects. As early as the 1960s, a series of painted wooden sculptures were created. The two bronze sculptures Composition X4"and Composition X8 from 2011 take abstract forms from his monumental work of art, The Pyramid of Memory 1965-2010.
