When war broke out between Genoa and Savoy in 1625, Scorza returned to Genoa disgraced and was charged with treason. During his last years, Scorza influenced Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione (1609-1664) and other younger Genoese artists. Scorza is best known for paintings in which animals are part of the narrative, which were in turn influenced by the many northern European artists working in Genoa, notably Frans Snyders and his pupil Jan Roos, as well as Pieter Boel and Goffredo Wals.
