Forays into northern Arizona have also yielded some beautiful renditions of Navajo life and the Grand Canyon. Young was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 2, 1913. He grew up in Winnetka, a suburb on the lake near Chicago, Illinois, where his father was in the advertising business. His mother was a concert pianist.
