About William McDermitt

    William Thomas McDermitt was born in Percy, IL on March 2, 1884. Having come to southern California at an early age, McDermitt graduated from Pomona High School and Pomona College.

    He then continued his studies in NYC at the Pratt Institute and Art Students League. During the 1920s he taught at Washington State College in Pullman. After returning to Los Angeles in the early 1930s, he began teaching at the Los Angeles Businessmen's Art Club. He often took his pupils on painting excursions into the nearby deserts. McDermitt died in Los Angeles on Dec. 4, 1961. A highly skilled painter, his works are rare.
