    Wang Xuetao, also known as Ting Jun, styled Xiaofeng and nicknamed Chi Yuan, was born in Cheng’an, Hebei Province, in 1903. He became a celebrated modern Chinese painter, best known for his small freehand flower-and-bird paintings.

    In 1922, Wang Xuetao was admitted to the Western Painting Department of Peiping Art College, later transferring to the Chinese Painting Department. In 1924, he became a pupil of Qi Baishi, who renamed him Xuetao. After graduating in 1926, Wang remained at the school as a teaching assistant and lecturer.

    During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Wang Xuetao resigned from his teaching post to focus on painting and selling his works. He devoted himself to the traditions of earlier maste...
