Wang Xuetao, also known as Ting Jun, styled Xiaofeng and nicknamed Chi Yuan, was born in Cheng’an, Hebei Province, in 1903. He became a celebrated modern Chinese painter, best known for his small freehand flower-and-bird paintings. In 1922, Wang Xuetao was admitted to the Western Painting Department of Peiping Art College, later transferring to the Chinese Painting Department.
