    Yves Brayer studied from 1924 at the Academy in Montparnasse and later at the Paris École des Beaux-Arts under Lucien Simon. During this time he exhibited for the first time in the Salon d'Automne and in the Salon des Indépendants. In 1927 he received a state scholarship and went to Spain, where his autodidactic study of the great masters in the Prado had a decisive influence on him. After traveling to Morocco and Italy, he settled in Paris in 1934. In 1942 he designed costumes and sets for a ballet at the Paris Opera. His oeuvre proves to be very diverse: In addition to a preference for copperplate engravings and lithographs, the Frenchman also created large-scale paintings with landscapes, everyday scenes, portraits and still life...
