After graduation from high school, he entered John Herron Art School in Indianapolis, Indiana. After graduation from high school, he entered John Herron Art School in Indianapolis, Indiana. There he studied four years of figure painting, still life and landscape painting under William Forsyth and Clifton Wheeler.
