He was first in the city directory of Milwaukee in 1891 at age 18, and he shared a studio with Frank Bresler who was also from Manitowoc. From 1896 to 1898, he was in Detroit and worked as a portrait artist with Percy Cuthberg Nash, and then went back to Milwaukee until 1918 when he began a residency in his hometown that lasted through...
