Born in Wilmington, North Carolina, Emily Selinger moved to New England and attended school in Providence Rhode Island. She studied at Cooper Union* Institute of Design in New York, in Florence, Italy with Amalia Rocchi, and in Holland with Margaret Roosenboom. In 1882, she married Jean Paul Selinger, a well-known artist, and they toured Europe for three years, spending most of their time in Germany. In 1882, she married Jean Paul Selinger, a well-known artist, and they toured Europe for three years, spending most of their time in Germany.
