After his early education there, Cherepov studied with Konstantin Semionovich Vyotsky (1864-1938) in Riga, Latvia, at the Academy of Art. Later, in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, Cherepov studied with Alexei Hanzen, an accomplished painter and the grandson of Russia’s greatest seascape painter, Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817-1900).
