Russian-American landscape, still-life, and portrait painter, George Cherepov, was born in Tsarist Russia in 1909, in the Baltic area now known as the Republic of Lithuania. After his early education there, Cherepov studied with Konstantin Semionovich Vyotsky (1864-1938) in Riga, Latvia, at the Academy of Art. Later, in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, Cherepov studied with Alexei Hanzen, an accomplished painter and the grandson of Russia’s greatest seascape painter, Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817-1900). Around the1940s, Cherepov traveled throughout central Europe just before World War II where he is recorded as exhibiting his colorful paintings at galleries in Prague, Budapest, and Munich. After his early education there, Cherepov studied with Konstantin Semionovich Vyotsky (1864-1938) in Riga, Latvia, at the Academy of Art.
